OWNCS2 PA General Meeting Minutes – November

Date, Time, and Location: Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 6:30PM Via Zoom

Meeting called to order by: PTO President- Kathy Vergara at 6:35PM

Note Taker(s): Secretary- Esther Wallace

Timekeeper: Treasurer- Shaenne Toussaint-Islam

Attendees: President- Kathy Vergara, VP- Xaulanda Lewis, Co-Communications Officers-

Clorinda Rivera, Dakina Battle; Treasurer- Shaenne Toussaint-Islam; Teacher Representative-

Ms. Imam; There were 20 attendees; a quorum was reached


ORDERS OF BUSINESS

I. Parent Association Updates/Events

a. Gobble Grams

 Order forms were given to classroom teachers on Oct 31 st to be distributed to

students

 Some students received the order forms late so there has been a few recent

orders coming in

 The PA will continue to collect Gobble Gram orders until the morning of 11/22

b. 4 th Annual Turkey Giveaway

 Thank you to all the parents that participated in this year’s turkey raffle

 Congratulations to the two winners: Dawny and Jodi

 The winners will be announced during the November PA meeting

 A day and time to pick up the turkey(s) will be given to the winners

c. Online Snack Shop – own2pto.com

 There has been a significant decrease in orders for the online shop the last 3

weeks

 All the profits from this month and next month’s online sales will be donated

to the school to help fund rooftop equipment. Please support the school in

reaching their goal

 Parents can go online to the PA’s website and purchase snacks/treats for the

students. All purchases will be delivered directly to the student towards the

end of the school day Friday

 Wednesdays are the deadline to complete your online order for Friday

deliveries


d. Parent Association Elections

 All Parent Association positions will be up for re-election:

i. President

ii. Vice President

iii. Treasurer

iv. Communication’s Officer

v. Secretary


 If you are interested in running or would like to nominate a parent, please

email the Parent Association

e. Small Business Pop-Up – December 14 th

 PA is planning on doing holding a small business pop up for OWN2 families

that have a business they would like to showcase

 If you would be interested in being a vendor at the pop up shop please

contact the PA

 A google form will be sent out to sign up as a vendor

 There will be a table fee of between $50-$75 for vendors

f. Parent Volunteers/Donations

 Volunteers are needed to assist with packaging snack shop orders and

Gobble grams

 If you would like to donate a frozen turkey or snacks/treats for the turkey give-

a-way, gobble grams or the online shop please email the Parent association:

pa_own2@owncs.org

 Please ensure all snack donations are nut-free

 Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to assist this year so far with

packaging snacks

 Email the PA if you are interested in being added to our volunteer list


II. School Updates

a. Friendsgiving/Twin Day

 OWN2 will host a Friendsgiving for the students on 11/22/24

 The PA will set up a balloon, fall themed back drop and take pictures of

students dressed as twins

 If you have pictures of your child you would like to submit please email to the

PA

 A slideshow of pictures will be posted for parents to enjoy on Bloomz and

Instagram

b. Bingo Night

 Mr. McLean and admissions will be planning a bingo night soon

 Event will be likely held on a Friday or Saturday

 More information will be sent out once the details are finalized

c. Middle School Opening

 OWN is working on plans to open a middle school in the Howard Beach area

 There was a petition form that parents were asked to sign at Parent/Teacher

night to gauge interest

 The next Middle School information session will be held on Tues at 4pm via

Zoom

 As per Mr. McLean, the middle school will not be open in time for the 2025/26

school year. There is a possibility it will be open for the 2026/27 school year


III. Reminders


a. Traffic and Congestion – Please remember to be courteous when picking up and

dropping off your child. Utilize the morning drop off line when bringing your children

to school. If you will be walking your child in, please park in the parking lot instead of

double parking on the street

b. School Calendar – Remember to continue checking the school website regularly for

any changes to the school calendar related to Half Days or Holidays

c. Nut-Free School – Please remember, no nut products allowed in the school building

d. Important Dates:

 Nov 28 & 29 th – School Closed for Thanksgiving
